Our philosophy for teaching writing at Capel-le-Ferne Primary is to immerse the children in a text. Our teachers will choose a quality text to help teach a wide range of genres and writing strategies. The text may result in 2-4 weeks worth of activities, starting off with reading and exploring the content; then learning about the key features of the genre, analysing the author's skills; and finally applying their new learning to their own writing.
The children are expected to plan, write, edit and improve an extended piece of writing every 2-3 weeks. This extended writing provides an opportunity for children to independently apply a wide range of learned skills.
