Writing
Our philosophy for teaching writing at Capel-le-Ferne Primary is to immerse the children in a text. Our teachers will choose a quality text to help teach a wide range of genres and writing strategies. The text may result in 2-4 weeks worth of activities, starting off with reading and exploring the content; then learning about the key features of the genre, analysing the author's skills; and finally applying their new learning to their own writing.
The children are expected to plan, write, edit and improve an extended piece of writing every 2 weeks. This extended writing provides an opportunity for children to independently apply a wide range of learned skills.
The school uses a spiral model to support writing development. This means children will revisit units each year. They consolidate and build on knowledge.
The overview at the bottom of the page shows units taught, when and the quality texts chosen that are linked to them.
