British Values
Promoting Fundamental British Values
At our school, we take seriously our responsibility to prepare children for life in modern Britain. In line with Department for Education (DfE) guidance, we ensure that fundamental British Values are not only discussed but are embedded in the ethos and daily life of our school. Our curriculum provides meaningful opportunities for children to explore and deepen their understanding of these key principles.
Democracy
Pupil voice is highly valued within our school. All children regularly take part in class discussions and have the opportunity to elect representatives to the School Council through a fair and democratic process. This helps them understand how democracy works and the importance of having a say in decision-making.
Rule of Law
The importance of laws and rules is consistently reinforced in classrooms and assemblies. Pupils learn why laws exist — to protect individuals and ensure fairness — and develop an understanding of the responsibilities that come with following them. They also consider the consequences of breaking rules.
Our positive behaviour policy supports this by making expectations clear, and pupils understand the rewards and sanctions in place. Assemblies and classroom discussions help children to reflect on right and wrong choices.
Individual Liberty
Children are encouraged to become independent learners and confident decision-makers within a safe and supportive environment. They learn about their rights and personal freedoms, and how to use these responsibly. Pupils also take part in charitable fundraising for local, national, and global causes, developing a sense of empathy and active citizenship.
Mutual Respect and Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Respect is at the heart of our school values and underpins everything we do. We encourage respect for ourselves, for others, and for the world around us — including our families, friends, wider community, and environment.
Through Religious Education (RE) and other curriculum areas, pupils learn about different religions and faiths. Members of our diverse school community often share their beliefs and traditions in assemblies and lessons, helping to promote understanding, respect, and appreciation of different cultures.
