Capel-le-Ferne Primary School - Home Learning Pack
In the event of needing to ‘self-isolate’ relating to UK government advice for Coronavirus (Covid-19) we would advise the following learning opportunities for pupils which can be undertaken at home.
Many of the ideas in the table below are part of our on-going home learning arrangements and do not require additional resources from school. In addition are some further ideas and links to free online materials which are subject/year group specific. These may be downloaded and completed either by printing them or from onscreen viewing, recording responses in a notebook or on paper.
Reading |
All children should maintain daily reading, whether aloud to an adult or sibling, or quietly by themselves. Sharing and discussing books together helps to develop understanding and increase enjoyment in reading. |
|
Number facts and times tables. |
All children should practice their recall of number and multiplication facts. Pupils have been taught different methods and games to do this effectively and Years 1-6 have access to Times Table Rock Stars to practice these online. |
|
Year R – bonds to 10 Year 1 – doubling/halving to 20 Year 2 – x2, x5, x10 |
Year 3 – x3, x4, x8 Year 4 – x6, x7, x9, x11, x12 Years 5/6 – all, including x/÷10,100 |
|
Spellings |
Each year group has specific spelling sounds, rule and patterns that the children have been working on in class, along with specific word lists to practice. These can also be found on the class pages of our school website. |
|
Topic-related home learning |
There is a list of suggested home learning activities for each Cornerstones topic, specifically related to the current learning taking place in class. They contain a range of written and practical tasks, allowing pupils to select their level of creativity and challenge. |
|
Topic research |
Further to the ideas in the home learning suggestions, pupils are also encouraged to undertake their own additional research on an aspect of learning which interests them. They may record and present their finding how they like, whether written or recorded/presented using technology. |
|
Opportunities for extended writing |
Whether through their topic related discoveries, or linked with something they have read, watched or experienced, pupils can create their own opportunities for writing. This may be a story, diary entry, explanation, newspaper report, persuasive letter, balanced argument etc. Encourage your child to think about how they should set out their writing, the style and purpose of their writing, what types of sentences and punctuation they might use, and how they may add interest for the reader through their adventurous vocabulary choices. |
|
Handwriting practice |
All pupils may practice their handwriting, thinking about their correct letter formation and how they maintain fluency of their joined handwriting. |
|
Learn or practice specific skills |
Take the opportunity to learn together and share everyday life skills, such as: cooking, cleaning, sewing, creating art, composing music, ICT skills/coding, conducting an investigation, speaking other languages, sport/fitness etc. |
