Our approach to Home Learning
At Capel-le-Ferne Primary School, we want to develop a good partnership between home and school as we work together to support each child in their learning.
Alongside the curriculum offer that pupils receive while they are in school, class teachers will also provide direction on additional task that should be completed from home. This will include:
1. Suggested list of project related activities linked to the termly Cornerstone topics.
These are published on each class’ webpages. They include opportunities for pupils to express and apply their knowledge of skills through creativity and practical problem-solving in real-life situations. Children may choose and complete the activities they wish from the list and send in evidence of their learning in an appropriate way. We would encourage at pupils attempt at least 5 activities across the term, but they may do more if they wish.
2. Regular revisiting of learning that has taken place recently in class to develop pupil’s confidence and independence. This will often be sent home in the form of printed activities or worksheets for pupils to complete and return to school. There will be instructions and example questions to show you what to do, and pupils should recall and follow the steps undertaken in class to help break a task down.
3. Regular practice of basic skills to move towards meeting their age-expected standards.
This work includes:
Additional guidance will be provided relating to expectations of each individual class.
New Home Learning will be set each Friday and is due to be handed in by the following Wednesday. It may be uploaded and shared with class teachers using Seesaw, our online platform, or sent into school on paper, emailed to the school office, or brought in on USB flash drive where appropriate.
More information about Seesaw, including how to sign up for access, follow the link below. If you have forgotten or have any issue with logins, please contact the school office.
In the event of your child needing to self-isolate or quarantine in accordance with Covid-19 guidance, we would encourage the completion of suitable home learning activities where you child is well enough to do so. These include maintaining key English and Maths skills, such as reading, handwriting, spelling, counting, times tables and calculation practice. Children can also complete topic linked activities either from the home learning ideas for the term, or from additional topic based guidance, which can be found on the class webpage.
Completed learning can be uploaded to Seesaw or emailed into school so pupils can maintain communication with their teacher. Please be aware there may on occasion be a small delay in reply where staff are managing the learning of pupils in class and at home simultaneously.
If any parent is unable to access the home learning that will be provided in the event of self-isolation in electronic form, please let the school know and we will arrange for a physical copy to be provided.
