Each term we will read a range of texts through our English lessons, Guided Reading sessions and other wider opportunities for shared reading. Much of this will be linked to our topic learning to help increase our knowledge and understanding, while gathering ideas and vocabulary from expert writers that we can use in our own writing. We will also begin to examine the style and purpose of different types of writing, looking at its structure, sentences and use of punctuation to create effects for the reader.
Most children are free to read widely of their own choosing, keeping track of their reading in their reading record book, and by completing book journals. Pupils who are selected to read regularly with an adult in school will be given additional guidance on the books they may choose, and should have their book available in school with them each day.
